WARNING: This story contains some gory description, please be aware of that if you don't enjoy gore!

You gasped for breath, your lungs burning from the lack of oxygen as you lay crumpled on the ground. Just a moment ago, you were being strangled by a ghoul who had decided that playing with their food was in their best interest. Next thing you knew, you were thrown down the dark alley against a brick wall with a sickening crunch. Something had broken and you weren’t entirely sure which part it was. The pain was all over your body, sharp and immobilizing. All you could do was gasp for breath and squeeze your (e/c) eyes shut as you tried to ignore the stinging pains that shot through your ribs and spine with every breath you took.

A sinister chuckle pierced your ears as the dark haired ghoul lumbered towards you, red eyes glowing like rubies in the pitch black alley. “My, my. You’re pretty strong for a human.” He slowly sauntered closer, “Most usually pass out by now.” He crouched near your form and smirked triumphantly as you tried to shift away from him to no avail. His fingertips danced across your arm as he hummed lightly. “I like watching you struggle. I think I’ll keep you alive a little longer.” He grinned and gripped your arm, bringing it closer to his lips.

You let out strangled yell and tried to pull your arm from his grasp, adrenaline causing your body to feel numb. You knew it was no use but you tried anyways. His tongue flicked out from between his dry, chapped lips and he slowly licked your (s/c) skin. You shuddered and gagged, trying to resist your stomach’s urge to empty its contents onto the ground. Suddenly, his teeth grazed your skin. You froze and whimpered, tears spilling from your eyes and trailing down your face.

“Yes,” He hissed, “You look delicious when you’re scared.” His teeth sunk into your flesh.

A scream was ripped from your chest as he tore the meat away from your bone. Your whole body convulsed as your mind went blank. Your sight seemed to go black for a moment as your brain registered the immense amount of pain that you were experiencing. You could hear the ghouls laughter somewhere nearby. You wished that you would just pass out already. Why hadn’t you passed out?! “Please,” You sobbed as you curled into a ball.

“Please, what?” He spat, his hands grasping your arm to surely bite again.

You froze. Yes, ‘Please what?’ was a good question. ‘Please kill me’ or ‘Please stop’? You weren’t sure which would be better at this point. You whimpered and braced yourself for more pain when he suddenly let go of your arm.

“Huh? What are-” His words were suddenly choked off and you heard a dull thud echo in the air.

You looked up and saw that someone new was now standing in the alleyway. Their face was shrouded in black shadows but you could clearly see one ruby eye glowing as it watched you, their face framed with snow white hair. You took a shuddering breath as their strange tentacles inched closer to you. You squeezed your eyes shut again and waited for them to kill you. A ghoul killed another ghoul for a meal. That much wasn’t surprising. And so you waited, your skin crawling as the grotesque limbs slid around your back and arm.

But nothing happened.

Your (e/c) eyes flew open as warm, gentle hands gripped your arm and wrapped some sort of cloth around your wound. Your mouth popped open in shock and you stared at the slender man that tenderly cared for you. “W-What are you doing?” Your voice shook as you stared at him incredulously.

He didn’t say anything but finally looked at you. His one eye was no longer bright red but a calm silver, bright as the moon in the night sky. You realized that his other eye was covered by a mask that had a zipper where his mouth was, and an eyepatch over the eye. He turned his gaze back to his work, white hair falling around his face to block it from your view. When he was done, he gently cradled you and lifted you off the ground, making his way back out of the alley and down the streets.

“Where are we going?” You whispered, wincing he jostled you as he stepped off the sidewalk and into the street.

He didn’t answer you, only sighed and continued walking. You gazed around you, trying to figure out where he was taking you. It became obvious when a sign for the medical center came into view. You slowly shook your head in disbelief. A ghoul was taking a human to a medical center instead of to some back road to eat them? You turned your attention back to the male that was carrying you. His brows were furrowed and his eye was focused on the street in front of him.

It wasn’t long before your silent hero stopped a ways away from the medical center and gently set you on your feet, hands hovering in case you started to collapse. You sucked in a sharp breath when a sharp pain shot up from your knee to your hip but you shifted your weight to your good leg so it wasn’t too bad. You turned to face him, “Can I at least know your name?”

He seemed shocked at this, his silver eye widening as he flinched, as if you had slapped him. He warily shook his head and turned to leave.

“Please!” You cried out. “I-I won’t tell anyone. I just… I want to know what to call you... If I ever see you again.”

He halted in his tracks and his voice rang out loud and clear, startling you for a moment, “Why would you want to see me again?”

You pursed your lips together stubbornly, ignoring the way your whole body ached. “Because you saved my life. You might be a ghoul, but I still owe you everything I have.”

He stayed silent for a moment before turning around to face you again. He slowly pulled off his mask, allowing you to see his pale face and both silver eyes clearly shining from behind his snowy hair. “Kaneki Ken.”

You managed a small smile. “It’s nice to meet you. I’m (F/n) (L/n).”

He nodded once before turning to leave, only hesitating to say, “I’m in Anteiku a lot. Just saying.” He turned and placed his mask back on his face, then walking away.

You suppressed a laugh - one that made your ribs hurt like hell - and nodded. “Thank you.” You turned without another glance back and hobbled the rest of the way to the hospital, briefly wondering if there were more ghouls out there that were like the strange Kaneki Ken.
